Car accidents are often the result of negligent driving. In some instances, however, the cause of a fatal accident can be traced to an underlying problem with traffic flow, road signs or traffic lights. When a car accident results from road conditions established or maintained by state or city agencies, the motorists and their families may be warranted in seeking compensation from a government agency.

Car accident vicitms and their families have legal rights. If you were injured or lost someone you love from a negligent driver, schedule a free consultation with our experienced New Haven auto accident attorneys to explore your legal options.

On Sept. 3, a 21-year-old New Haven resident was killed in a motorcycle accident at the corner of Dyke Street and Captain Thomas Boulevard in West Haven. The accident occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. and involved two motorcycles and a pickup truck. According to a person at the scene, the second motorcyclist flipped over the pickup truck and was taken to the hospital.

This New Haven accident was the latest of three fatal motorcycle accidents at this intersection in just seven weeks. The first accident happened on July 17. A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed when a car pulled out of Dyke Street and collided with the motorcycle. The second accident happened on July 29. A 50-year-old motorcyclist was injured and later died from his injuries after a similar collision at the intersection.

Area residents are speculating that the intersection needs more amenities to be safer for drivers. Some suggested speed bumps or a blinking light to signal the intersection and decrease speed. Reportedly, police began considering a traffic study of the area following the first two accidents. Hopefully they will conduct a study and make necessary improvements so we don't see any more fatal accidents.
