Trucker causes crash after losing control of tractor trailer

Operating a vehicle requires drivers to be focused, cautious and responsible behind the wheel. Most drivers in Connecticut realize this and make sure that they are always in control of their vehicles. They do not speed or make dangerous lane changes. They pay attention to the road and avoid making overly aggressive moves. However, those who do not operate their vehicles in this manner run the risk of causing a serious accident.
The damage that can be done in an accident caused by a reckless driver and an out-of-control vehicle can be catastrophic, especially when it involves large and powerful commercial-sized tractor trailers. A recent trucking accident involving a semi truck is a tragic reminder of how devastating these crashes can be.
The accident occurred in the early afternoon when a 57-year-old truck driver lost control of his rig as he approached a sharp curve in the road. The tractor trailer crossed over the center line as the driver tried to regain control, but it ended up crashing into a garbage truck traveling in the next lane. The semi truck driver was killed in the accident and the garbage truck driver was critically injured.
Police have yet to determine the cause of the accident, but in similar situations, speed or distraction has played a significant role. Larger vehicles are generally more difficult to control than smaller passenger cars. It takes more space and time for them to come to a stop and the back of a truck can easily spin out and jackknife if adjustments are made too quickly by a driver. Often times, these trucks are loaded with heavy or hazardous cargo which can present an additional risk to those involved in an accident.
Victims of these types of crashes often suffer life-altering injuries or are killed. Working with an attorney to figure out what went wrong to cause an accident can be very helpful for victims and their families. Whether a crash was caused by a malfunctioning auto part or driver negligence, identifying the factors involved in an accident can be the first step in assigning liability and pursuing compensation.
