A deadly accident can occur within a short time frame due to the recklessness of another motorist. A recent car accident claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman. The fatal accident happened as the woman was attempting to cross a Connecticut roadway. The driver has been arrested and charged with manslaughter.
The accident reportedly occurred on a recent Sunday evening. According to reports, multiple vehicles stopped to allow a woman to make her way across the street. However, as the woman was trying to cross, the driver of a minivan maneuvered around the vehicles and crashed into her. After the initial impact, the driver crashed into another vehicle. The driver never stopped, and she reportedly left the scene altogether.
Medics arrived at the scene and transported the woman to the hospital. Tragically, the woman died as a result of her injuries. Authorities were able to apprehend the driver and place her under arrest. She was charged with evading responsibility and vehicular manslaughter. She is being held at a county jail facility on a $250,000 bond.
A fatal accident can be devastating to surviving loved ones. Usually, family members are left with the task of making funeral arrangements and the financial burden of burial expenses. Even though the suspect is behind bars, the family may still have legal recourse. The family may have the right to file a wrongful death claim against the driver of the minivan to recoup damages for their suffering. The civil court system in Connecticut may award damages if evidence deems the driver responsible for the woman's death.
