Heading out to the waters can be a dangerous venture for many people. Boaters may be in danger of unfavorable weather conditions and reckless behavior of others. A lawsuit was filed against a boating company and boating operator following a deadly accident that occurred in 2011. The boat accident took the life of a Connecticut resident, and now a settlement has been reached in the wrongful death case filed by family members.
The tragic accident happened back in 2011. Reportedly, the accident was caused by the boat operator's reckless driving behavior. According to the lawsuit, the victim was thrown throughout the boat and then thrown out into the ocean. The victim suffered serious spinal cord and head injuries. Eventually, the injuries suffered led to the man's death.
The family of the man initially filed a wrongful death suit two years ago, requesting judgment in the millions for punitive and compensatory damages. However, since the filing, a settlement was reached that prompted the family to drop the suit. The amount of the settlement has not been reported and cannot be released due to confidentiality.
Serious injuries and death can be caused from a boat accident. In this case, the family members of the deceased are undoubtedly distraught over their untimely loss. Connecticut family members who have lost loved ones in boating accidents may pursue filing wrongful death claims as appropriate remedies. The civil court system may find in favor of the plaintiffs and award damages sought if evidence demonstrates that the other party was responsible for the accident and operated in a negligent manner.
