For many people who love in the state of Connecticut, dogs play an important role in their lives. Some dog owners even refer to themselves as “pet parents.? While much of the time these animals are enjoyable to be around, they are animals, and at times have been known to bite those around them. Sometime these instances are not a big deal. Other times however they leave the victim of the dog bite seriously injured.
Dog bites can be a painful injury to the person who suffers it. In addition, depending on the severity of the injury it is possible that a scar will remain once the victim recovers. In the very worst situations the person the dog attacks actually dies as a result of his or her injuries.
In any of these situations it is possible that a lawsuit could be filed against the owner of the dog. The family of a girl who resides in another state did his very thing. It is easy to see how a similar injury lawsuit in Connecticut could be filed.
As a result of a dog attack the girl endured at the age of eight, she suffered serious injuries that led to a portion of her arm amputated. The lawsuit the girl’s family filed following the incident was recently resolved. They were awarded $72 million. That amount was reduced when the judge capped the punitive damages assessed at $250,000. In the end the award amounts to approximately $36.6 million.
The physical recovery following a dog bite is not an easy one. It is made that much more difficult when one considers the mental issues that often arise following a situation such as this one. While it is fair to say that most would choose to avoid a dog bite completely, money can be of assistance in covering medical bills and other related expenses.
