Wrongful death lawsuits may be filed in a variety of scenarios

When many people think of wrongful death lawsuits they likely associate them with incidents such as car accidents. This is not the only time such a case might be filed however. A wrongful death lawsuit could be appropriate any time that a life is lost as a result of negligence of another party. This is true even if the person who died was incarcerated at the time of his or her death.
The family of an incarcerated man from another state who died in prison appears to be exploring its legal options. According to eyewitnesses, their relative, who was in prison for battery, was shot by guard following a fight between inmates. At the time if the incident, the 28 year old was allegedly handcuffed. He was shot in the arm, head, neck and chest. Another inmate who was also allegedly handcuffed was also wounded in the incident. That 24-year-old man survived.
The family of the deceased man has been waiting for months to learn specifics about the incident. Their lawyer indicates that they are preparing to file a wrongful death lawsuit.
While a wrongful death lawsuit cannot bring back the man whose life was lost, it can nonetheless be beneficial. In addition to providing the man’s family with a sense of closure, if successful, it could also result in them receiving monetary compensation that could make moving forward with life easier to do.
