hit and run accidentHartford police are seeking the public's help in finding the driver involved in a hit and run accident that left a 34-year-old father of three dead.

On Sunday, around 5 a.m., the 34-year-old local man was changing a tire near the intersection of Preston Street and Campfield Avenue. He was hit in the road and thrown from his vehicle. Emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene just minutes after they arrived to provide aid.

It is believed that the car that hit him was speeding and turned in an unknown direction on Maple Avenue.

Reconstruction teams were at the scene all morning to determine how the accident occurred and any further clues about the vehicle and driver who fled the scene. Investigators believe it was a black Altima that struck the victim and it could have front-end damage.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hartford Police Department at 860-757-4355.

Residents in the area told NBC Connecticut that speeding is common on Preston Street and the installation of speed bumps could prevent tragedies such as this one.

Just last month police were investigating another hit and run that left one person injured. A pedestrian was hit by a car on Silas Deane Highway near Mill Street in Wethersfield. In another hit and run accident in April, a 43-year-old man was struck in Greenwich on East Putnam Avenue and Hillside Road.

One family is receiving justice after an arrest was made for a hit and run accident that led to the death of a New Haven man in March. The driver was charged with felony evading, second degree manslaughter and reckless driving.
